Perioral dermatitis is one of the most common conditions we treat holistically at Yin Yang Dermatology. Unlike acne and eczema, perioral dermatitis often gets worse when people apply different creams or ointments. Topical steroids will often cause major flare-ups of the skin with extreme redness and irritation.
Our treatment of perioral dermatitis emphasizes healing from within with Chinese herbs. We prescribe customized herbal teas that address the precise needs of each person’s skin. Herbal formulas contain anywhere from 10 to 18 herbs. Different herbs are chosen to address facial redness, flaking, itching, and the various kinds of bumps that are seen in this condition for an effective holistic cure.

What About Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an effective treatment for the underlying stress that is often part of the picture in perioral dermatitis. It is a secondary treatment, though, with herbal medicine being the primary method of healing. Some of our patients choose to include acupuncture, but most are treated solely with internal herbs.
